Extend Statutory Adoption Leave and Pay to Special Guardians, as you can take permanent care of a baby under a Special Guardianship Order, yet not be entitled to maternity, paternity or adoption leave or pay, yet you have all the same responsibilities as a paternal or adoptive parent.
Many people take permanent care of a baby under a Special Guardianship Order, yet they are not entitled to maternity, paternity or adoption pay, yet they have all the same responsibilities as a paternal or adoptive parent.
The Government's information on eligibility for Adoption Leave and Pay states: "You do not qualify for Statutory Adoption Leave or Pay if you [...] become a special guardian". We believe this should change.
