Defund fossil fuel companies & correctly fund our NHS in %GDP- NOT "real terms"
We want the UK government to remove the funding and subsidies of fossil fuel companies who posted record profits (e.g. Shell: $40Bn, BP: $27Bn). We want taxation of this profit to directly fund our NHS which- despite increased "real terms" spending- has seen funding cuts in terms of %GDP since 2010.
Between 2010-2019 ('pre-covid') NHS funding as a function of %GDP (Gross Domestic Product), the wealth created by the people- has declined (7.5% to 7.0%). Over this timeframe NHS waiting lists doubled from 2 to 4million.
Compared to the timeframe of 2001-2009, funding grew by 2.5%GDP. In this time, waiting lists peaked at ~4million, but declined to ~2million.
There's clear trend between funding (in %GDP)& the quality of care the NHS can provide. Meanwhile fossil fuels kill us with tax money.

Your petition also refers to funding the NHS as a % of GDP, but as the rest of your petition is about redirecting the revenue of taxes on fossil fuel companies, it's not clear how you want this to work.
