Petition Action

Tackle crime in Bolton by creating harsher punishments

Petition Details

We want to make Bolton a safer place, by lowering the crime rate. Bolton recorded 36,2451 offences last year, meaning this is above average. this could be achieved by raising the amount of police within
the area, or making punishments harsher for people that have committed a crime.

Additional Information

This may make people within Bolton feel unsafe, especially young people in the area, this leads to more anti-social behaviour and the crime rate rising, if more is not done about this.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about local law enforcement are a matter for the local police force, not the UK Government or Parliament.

We can accept petitions calling on the Government to change the minimum and maximum sentences for certain offences, as these are set out in law, but it would need to be clear what offences you wanted the Government to increase the sentences of.
