Create an Independent Board to make all public appointments
We want all public appointments to non-governmental organisations, like the BBC, to be made by a new Independent Board, made up of a cross-section of society. Ministers should have no role in deciding on who is appointed to non-governmental organisations, or making these appointments.
We believe that the current appointments process leaves too much scope for Ministers to make appointments to friends and political allies, and that this can lead to institutional capture of non-governmental organisations.
This can reduce public confidence in public appointees and the institutions they work for. The Public need confidence that non-governmental organisations and the people appointed to them are entirely independent.
