Petition Action

Calling on the Government not to make any exceptions to tax rules at local level

Petition Details

Petition calling on the Government not to make any exceptions to requirements for local authorities to hold referendums on council tax increases of more than 5%

Additional Information

We are in a cost of living crisis and this is an unfair 15% council tax raise being put through in Croydon that has been allowed to happen by government without a consultation and referendum being put to the residents.

Government should not get involved in local level matters and set presidents that will allow a loop holes for other local authorities to request similar interference. The rule regarding a referendum is there for a purpose and should be respected.
