We call upon the government to join Horizon Europe
UK research cannot be left behind, we want the government to join Horizon Europe, the European Union’s key funding programme for research and innovation with a budget of €95.5 billion
Before Brexit, researchers received about £1bn a year from EU funding programmes. The UK must be in this programme to promote research in the UK, and maintain collaborations built in the past forty years with partners in universities in the European Union.
The UK has the privilege of being granted associate status by the EU, and the government must accede to the agreement.
It must join the following countries which have an association agreement with the EU in the Horizon programme:
• Albania
• Armenia
• Bosnia and Herzegovina
• Faroe Islands
• Georgia
• Iceland
• Israel
• Kosovo (in line with UNSCR 1244/1999)
• Moldova
• Montenegro
• North Macedonia
• Norway
• Serbia
• Tunisia
• Turkey
• Ukraine
Morocco is about to join. New-Zealand is also on board for 2024.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The UK Government has said it has been pushing the EU to implement the UK’s association to Horizon Europe, but that EU has continued to delay UK association: questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questions/detail/2023-02-06/140168
It's therefore not clear what action you want the UK Government to take.
