The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
The calculation of the energy price cap is a matter for the regulator Ofgem, which is operationally independent of the UK Government and House of Commons. You can find out more about how the price cap is calculated here: www.ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/energy-advice-households/check-if-energy-price-cap-affects-you
The Government has put in place the Energy Price Guarantee, to reduce the cost of energy for households. You can find out more about this scheme here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/energy-bills-support/energy-bills-support-factsheet-8-september-2022
