Make it law that public sector workers get an annual pay rise of CPI inflation
Introduce a new law requiring all public sector workers to receive an annual pay rise of at least current CPI inflation.
On average, public sector pay has decreased by 4.3% in real terms between 2009 and 2021. This should not be happening.
Public sector workers have been striking for way too long. These are unprecedented times.
On average, public sector pay has decreased by 4.3% between 2009 and 2021. Almost the whole of the public sector is striking.
According to analysis of Office for National Statistics data by the Guardian, here is how much public sector pay has risen between 2009 and 2021.
1. Train/tram drivers 12.2%
2. Paramedics -2.8%
3. Police officers -13%
4. Secondary education -9.7%
5. Primary and nursery education -11.8%
