Tax at family level instead of individual.
The uk is an international outlier in applying income tax to individuals rather than at the level of a family unit. This creates a financial burden on families with young children, this could also benefit single parents. Should be capped much higher than 100k for areas with high cost of living.
Research shows that many issues in society is dependant on children’s needs being met by parents. Who are less likely to meet these needs when facing financial difficulties.
This change would have a compounding benefit to our children’s future net contribution to society.
It could be applied to single parents and would help ease the burden of the high cost of childcare.
It could be paid for by taxing individuals more and higher incomes due to incentivising higher productivity.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We understand that you want to change the way families are taxed, but we're not sure exactly how. For example, we're not sure if you just want the Government to make income tax apply to households, rather than individuals, or if you also want different tax thresholds to be set for households based on the number of children they have, or other factors.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what change you'd like to see.
