Change the NICE guidelines for Lung Cancer Referrals
Change the NICE guidelines for Lung Cancer Referrals so that people under 40 are also referred for X-rays in non smokers.
The number of people being diagnosed with lung cancer under the age of 40 who don't smoke is on the increase. The stage that most of these people are diagnosed is stage 4.
If more people were referred for a simple chest x-ray sooner for persistent symptoms even though they are under the age of 40 and don't smoke, then more lives could be saved and a huge burden of cost to the NHS could be reduced as it costs less to treat someone in the earlier states of lung cancer than the later.
Too many people are dying unnecessarily because they don't tick the outdated boxes in the NICE guidelines for Lung Cancer.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence is an executive non-departmental public body, so the content of guidance produced by NICE is an operational matter for NICE, not the Government or Parliament. As a result it is not possible for the Government or Parliament to take the action you have requested.
