Petition Action

Legalise the Possession of Firearms for Self-Defence and Arm all Police Officers

Petition Details

We ask the government to relax the laws surrounding possession of firearms including handguns to allow possession for self defence and defence of property at any place or time, with no duty to retreat. We also ask that all police officers be routinely armed.

Additional Information

We ask for this because while the government could be worse at this job, we do not feel comfortable contracting out our safety and right to self defence to the government. The Police cannot be everywhere at all times and we do not believe we should have to be vulnerable should we not have the time or means to call for and wait for the police. We ask that all police officers be routinely armed to better equip them to do their job and protect us at their end.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government is responsible for setting the rules for who can use firearms, but decisions about training police officers in the use of firearms and arming them is an operational decision for individual police forces, not the UK Parliament and Government.

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to legalise the possession of firearms, including handguns.
