Petition Action

Hold non paying parents accountable for neglect. Ensure payments are made CSA

Petition Details

The CSA do not seem to follow their own rules in regards to child maintenance.

In America non paying parents are held accountable for neglect and often lose their parental rights!

I am owed over £7000 in child maintenance it’s not me who loses out it’s my child!

Additional Information

We are in a cost of living crisis. For years I have fought for child maintenance to the point it made me poorly.

There are millions of pounds not being paid/outstanding in areas. A single parent can be held accountable if they can’t feed their child yet the other non involved parent is not held accountable.

Things need to change.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about non-payment of child maintenance, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

The Child Maintenance Service can already take a range of actions to collect arrears of child maintenance. You can find out what actions the CMS can take here:
commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-7774/

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to make non-payment of child maintenance a criminal offence, with custodial penalties for offenders, if that's what you want to happen. If you want the Government to make any other changes to how parents apply for child maintenance, or requirements to pay child maintenance, you'd need to be clear what changes you want.
