Impose Fines for Perjury in Family Court
Propose amending Perjury Act 1911 to impose a financial penalty for perjury in family court, with revenue directed towards enhancing accessibility and fairness of the family court system.
We contend that the Perjury Act 1911 and inadequate resources within law enforcement and the judiciary compromise the integrity of our legal system. Some perpetrators and legal practitioners exploit this loophole for personal gain, particularly in cases of domestic abuse, causing further trauma to the victims. This issue warrants immediate attention and action to restore public confidence in the legal process.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The current law on perjury already applies to evidence given in family proceedings.
Decisions about investigating and prosecuting alleged cases of perjury are a matter for the courts and Crown Prosecution Service, not the Government or Parliament.
