Reform Attendance Registers in Schools to consider medical impairment disability
To have a different reporting system for children with complex medical impairments now recognised as disabilities. Not one size fits all with attendance. From day one when a child with a disability is absent there should be a traffic light system in place to reflect differently from an able child.
Disabled children who attend mainstream education are being disadvantaged unless they have an IEHCP in place. Only after 15 days of absence are schools becoming involved. I want this to be automatically recognised from day one rather than parents/schools having to apply for it. Schools are withholding educational work being sent home to children who are absent with medical impairments, putting them at a disadvantage because of their disability. This is discriminatory and wrong.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We understand that you are concerned about your child's education, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. It's not clear if you want changes to the way in which absence is recorded for children with disabilities, or if you want the Government to impose new requirements on schools in relation to the education of children with disabilities.
If your child has a disability, the school must make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to make sure they are not discriminated against, and if your child cannot attend because of illness or injury, your school and local council should provide support to make sure their education does not suffer. If you believe your school is failing to meet its obligations in respect of your child's education you could complain about this. You can find out how to complain about a school here: www.gov.uk/complain-about-school
