Change the day General elections are held in England to Tuesday.
Currently the general election day is Thursday. It should be moved to Tuesday so people who are counting votes have more time.
So voting counting is counted more accurately.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 provided that an ordinary general election would never take place more than five years after the last election and polling day would take place on the first Thursday in May, but that Act has now been repealed (by the Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act 2022), which does not specify what day of the week a general election will be on.
We could accept a petition calling for the Government to legislate so that general elections always take place on a Tuesday, but this wouldn't mean there was more time for votes to be counted.
