Raise the Universal Credit rent cap of £300

Petition Details

All single persons on Universal Credit throughout the UK receives £300 for rent. This is totally inadequate and needs to be raised.

Additional Information

I want the government to raise the cap so people don’t loose their homes and add to the homeless crisis we have at the moment

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

It is not true that how much Universal Credit claimants receive for housing costs is capped at £300.

The amount Universal Credit claimants receive for housing costs depends on the number of bedrooms they are entitled to, and the Local Housing Allowance rates for their area.

We could accept a petition calling for the Government to change the rules governing Local Housing Allowance rates, but you'd need to be clear how you wanted these rules to be changed.
