Petition Action

Regulate the tariff suppliers set for the public charging of electric vehicles

Petition Details

Public charging of electric vehicles is often determined and set based on the maximum rate of delivery, with many suppliers charging more for a faster, higher max kwh. However, the actual rate of delivery is often less than claimed by the supplier. The Government should ensure that this is regulated

Additional Information

Public charging of electric vehicles is often determined & set based on the maximum rate of delivery with many suppliers charging more for a faster max kwh. However the actual rate of delivery is often less than that claimed by the supplier. This invariably is due to the charger itself not working correctly. Despite the lower than claimed delivery rate, the supplier charges the same unit kwh rate to the consumer. Slower and lower rates should therefore be charged at a lower rate to the customer.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned that some electric vehicle owners are being overcharged for charging their vehicles, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

It's not clear if you want the Government to set specific tariffs for electric vehicle chargers that provide particular speeds of charging, or to create a regulator with powers to set tariffs for public electric vehicle charges, or do something else.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
