Place local democracy at the heart of the planning process and decision making.
The Town & Country Planning Act 1990 places a heavy burden on communities & councils to investigate and justify planning decisions which may be “called in” & overturned by the Secretary of State. Decisions can only be challenged on a point of law in a costly High Court review.
This is undemocratic.
The New Works Solar Farm in Telford was recently approved, after refusal by the council & being recommended for refusal by the Planning Inspector.
A protected landscape, with high amenity value, adjacent to AONB, this 49 hectare site is home to red list birds & wildlife. It is core to the Borough's Local Plan.
Under-Secretary of State Lee Rowley MP, overruled these decisions.
We challenge the unaccountability of this.
The council's only recourse is a costly legal challenge in the High Court.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you are concerned about the Government's decision regarding a recent planning decision it has called in, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. It's not clear if you want powers for Ministers to call in planning decisions to be revoked, or something else.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
