The 1983 National Heritage Act, commits the UK Government to ensure that Kew is adequately resourced to fulfil its statutory obligations.
Kew has been dramatically increasing income from non-government funding streams and there are plans to extend these efforts, but they are no longer able to keep up with the rate of cuts in government funding.
Kew has announced that the £5M deficit this year will result in >120 posts being axed, most in science and public engagement. Kew will lose dedicated, expert staff, and there will be drastic reduction in Kew’s globally important conservation and science.
