Require all hospitals to have Frailty Guardians and Acute Frailty Units
We want the Government to require all hospitals to have Frailty Guardians, to advocate for and ensure the safety of all frail, elderly patients admitted via acute routes, and frailty units/wards, to address the healthcare inequity experienced by frail older people who live outside of large cities.
The 2013 public inquiry at Mid Staffs NHS Trust recognised systemic failures in elderly care, today we are witnessing similar experiences within other NHS Trusts.
In 2023 some patients are still experiencing a lack of support with nutrition, hydration, hygiene, and toileting.
Missed care appears to be becoming acceptable ward culture, elderly patients are paying the price.
We believe the NHS is currently failing in its care of frail, elderly patients, urgent action is needed to resolve this issue.
