Petition Action

Stop Violating Young Women's Basic Human Rights

Petition Details

The young women of Bright Futures NE propose, young people by law should be allowed access to the toilet when they have their periods, during school hours.

Young people, when they have their periods should be granted access to a period pass. Enabling them to use the toilet during school hours.

Additional Information

Young people who have periods during school hours are denied access to the toilets. This prevents young people from having a period with dignity, causing shame, embarrassment and preventing them from changing period products; reducing the right to dignity and violating their basic human rights- as per the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Bright Futures NE propose young people with periods, by law are granted access to the toilet during school hours through use of a period pass.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions on policies regarding when students can leave the classroom or use the toilet are a matter for individual schools and teachers, not the UK Government or House of Commons.

If you are unhappy with how a school or teacher deals with requests to use the toilet, you should raise this with the school or relevant local authority.
