Petition Action

Review the increasing maintenance charges on freehold estates.

Petition Details

To review the rules are maintenance charges on new build freehold estates which are becoming an ever-increasing issue for new homeowners.

Additional Information

To review the rules are maintenance charges on new build freehold estates which are becoming an ever-increasing issue for new homeowners. Prices increase every year with no change to the service and also the service provided is poor and doesn't take into account vandalism which the homeowners on the estate are powerless to prevent but end up getting a large bill as a result. We would like these to be adopted so that they can be covered under the council tax provisions.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about maintenance charges for freehold estates, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

Decisions about the adoption of new build estates are a matter for individual local authorities, not the UK Government or Parliament.

We have published the following petition, which you might like to sign:

Give residential freeholders a Right to Manage communal areas: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/634842

If you want the Government to do something else you could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
