Give the Koh-i-Noor diamond back to India
In the mid-19th century, an 11-year old regent named Duleep Singh was pressured by British colonial officials to cede ownership of one of the world’s largest cut diamonds to Queen Victoria. It is now sitting in the crown of Queen Elizabeth, which has not been worn for at least twenty years.
Holding onto the spoils of colonialism prevents meaningful dialogue about the impact of said colonialism from taking place, and only serves to reinforce trauma.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can't accept your petition because the Koh-I-Noor diamond is part of the Crown Jewels and the decision to return it would be a matter for the Royal Family, not the UK Government or Parliament.
