Legislate to protect our national GA airfield infrastructure from redevelopment.
Airfields are under increasing threat from developers, who often acquire an airfield under as an operator. Think Coventry, think Doncaster.
Legislation needs to be enacted to protect airfields in recognition of them being national assets. Current law is largely weak in preventing redevelopment.
There are very few safeguards in the NPPF that planners must consider regarding airfields.
DfT policy, whilst supportive, is easily dismissed. The new 'GA Handbook', for example, begins by explaining that planners can ignore the guidance if offers. The UK CAA offer very little assistance in this area.
There is frequently a tension of interdepartmental government policy, that is undemocratically decided at a local level, failing to take into account the national asset that airfields are.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you're concerned about airfields being redeveloped, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what new protections you want the Government to introduce regarding the redevelopment of airfields.
