Quicker & Faster repair of Potholes around the UK

Petition Details

Currently there is not one part of the UK that doesn't suffer from Pot Holes, there are many examples of deep pot holes that are damaging all vehicles but also significant risks to cyclists. Many Vehicles are swerving to avoid the pot holes putting others and themselves at risk.

Additional Information

Update the rules around potholes and how they are to be dealt with by the Councils, to ensure road safety and environmental standards are required by law. There is the key risk to LIFE of all, including pedestrians whom might be in the possible accidents. Relook into the requirements to ensure that the councils are governed by rules which are the same around the UK.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.

Instead, you might like to sign one of the below open petitions, which make similar requests:

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/637420
Introduce new law requiring 'hazardous potholes' be identified and repaired

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/634995
Increase funding for the repair and resurfacing of roads

In addition, local authorities already have statutory obligations to maintain the roads they are responsible for, under Section 41 of the Highways Act 1980. The UK Government is only responsible for legislation governing road maintenance in England, because this is a devolved matter in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
