Parliament should prevent the award of a knighthood to Jacob Rees-Mogg.
At a critical time, Mr Rees-Mogg stretched out on a Commons bench, in a gesture that was interpreted by a great many people as showing his contempt for the Parliamentary process of which he is a part. It is - or should be - unthinkable that such a man should receive a notable honour.
Parliament is intended to represent the cherished ideal of democratic governance. The Honours system is only justified if it reflects (and rewards) a comparable aspiration among all people for that same high ideal of selfless service to the nation.
