Enable people to find out if housemates have a record of violence
We ask the Government to legislate and provide statutory guidance to police which sets out a clear process for enabling people to request information from the police about whether housemates have a record of violent offences
People who move into a shared property should be able to make a police application, to find out if a housemate has a record of offences including physical, emotional or sexual abuse and for the police to have a clear process for responding to such requests.
Many people, including myself, live or have lived in house shares with a housemate who has made them feel uncomfortable. The number of people living in house shares is continuously increasing so we believe it is vital that such a process exists so people are better able to protect themselves from risks.
