Reduce the age ambulance workers can draw their NHS pension to 55

Petition Details

Ambulance staff are expected to be able to preform under very difficult circumstances. This includes extremely stressful situations/environments and a need to be physically able. This can become more difficult with age. Their pension age should reflect this.

Additional Information

Research by GMB in 2019 found that the previous year the overwhelming majority (75 per cent) of paramedics left the NHS before the age of sixty,

The GMB also found that Paramedics 50 and above who left the NHS in 2018/19 were at a higher risk of being dismissed, retiring early due to ill-health or with a reduced pension, or even of dying in service.

Most ambulance workers are currently expected to work up until the age of 68. Fire and police can both retire from the age of 55. We want the same for ambulance staff.
