Retain the union of church and state
There have been an increasing number of calls to disestablish the Church of England from the state.
We, the undersigned are against these proposals.
Britain is a diverse nation, enhanced by this diversity.
The legal origin of these freedoms, and many other progressive reforms has been found in radical, social activism, as part of the established Church of England.
The established church provides a unique network of pastoral care across the community, far beyond the regular members of the congregation. These parishes have a legal obligation to provide and bless the community with marriage services, baptisms and funerals.
Great care should be exercised before removing constructs that have existed for centuries, and contrary to negative publicity help to provide a social service across the UK
