Petition Action

Cap the cost of school uniforms.

Petition Details

Stop the daylight robbery for parents/carers having to buy school logo items, that are charged at a huge inflation.

Additional Information

This day and age of “crisis of living”, schools still insisting buying of logo items, often from only one supplier, causing immense financial strain on an already broken system. Students being Ostracised, even punished for an incorrect non logo item. An example, one polo top, costing £15 from the supplier having the school logo with an addition postal cost of £5. £20 for only one item of clothing is simply disgusting. This needs to change.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about what retailers charge for clothes are a matter for individual retailers, not the Government or Parliament.

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to provide school uniform grants across England, if that's something you'd like to happen.

We have published the following petition, which you might like to sign:

Make school uniform VAT exempt: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/633778
