Fund cervical cancer screening from age 16, and encourage take-up of HPV vaccine
Cervical cancer screening is currently available to those aged over 25, but I would like it to be available from the age of 16, as this is the age of consent for sex. This would provide support for all young women.
Around 3,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer every year in the UK. The Government must also do more to increase take-up and encourage women who are eligible for a cervical smear test to attend their appointments. Ministers must also ensure that preventative measures, such as the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for girls in secondary schools, are taken up as fully as possible.
