Allow lay people to undertake artificial insemination of dogs
Currently only registered veterinarians are legally allowed to undertake artificial insemination of dogs. We want the Government to allow lay people to undertake this procedure, having completed a Government-sanctioned course and been certified.
Thousands of breeders will now have to rely on vets to perform this service. We believe this is not ideal as some vets are not supportive of dog breeding and will not perform the procedure. Also vets are not always available to undertake this procedure.
Some breeders want to be able to perform this procedure themselves, so they don't have to put their livelihood in the hands of another person. We ask that the Government creates a routes for lay people to be trained and certified to undertake this procedure.
