Make it a legal requirement to report a collision with a cat.
Change the law in section 170 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. Cats should be included in the animals reported following a collision with any vehicle.
Recognise the impact on those who have lost a loved pet.
Cats mostly reside in residential areas where drivers must be more cautious of their surroundings.
Responsible cat owners pay just as much for their cats as some dog owners. They pay annual fees to ensure their cats are vaccinated. Cat owners have their cats microchipped to ensure that these loved feline members of the family can be returned in the event of such unfortunate circumstances. They are microchipped for a reason.
With a change in the law, it is our hope that drivers may be more cautious and think twice about their driving behaviour.
