Limit Telecom Providers Early Termination Charges
Ofcom should be empowered to force telecom providers to change their T's & C's to allow customers to terminate a contract early for a fixed standardised termination fee without the obligation to settle the outstanding contract instalments.
Currently, telecom companies do not allow customers to cancel their contracts with providers for a fixed standardised charge. Instead, a customer is required to pay an amount that includes the cost of all remaining contract instalments and charges to terminate the contract early. The existing early termination charges imposed by providers are unfair and restrict a customer's freedom of choice.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
Decisions about cancellation charges are a matter for individual businesses, not the UK Government or Parliament.
