Petition Action

Prevent sitting Mayor of London standing as an MP

Additional Information

In 2012 the Mayor of London sought re-election promising to serve his mayoral term in full – which "cannot be combined with any other political capacity"

Recent press speculation is that the Mayor is about to renege on this firm campaign pledge.

While no one can be forced to serve in public office against their will and private enterprise is allowed to employ whomever they want, elected officials must be held to a higher standard.

Between 2012 and 2014 there has been no substantial political change that can justify his amended stance, which must accordingly be treated as dishonesty to gain election, otherwise known as electoral fraud.

Therefore Boris Johnson should be

i) prevented from running as a MP while the sitting
Mayor of London

ii) should the Mayor step down before the end of his
term he should be prevented from standing as an MP
until after his term as Mayor would have expired
should he choose not to seek re-election.
