Petition Action

Automatically fine cyclists £1,000 for intentionally running red lights.

Petition Details

Bring in legislation to increase penalties on cyclists who wantonly disobey road laws and in particular dangerous cycling that endangers pedestrians

Additional Information

There is an epedemic of recidivist cyclists in London who are a constant and everpresent threat to pedestrians with their aggressive flouting of road rules. They maim hundreds of pedestrians each year safe in the knowledge that the councils and in particular Sadiq Khan has now interest in tackling this hooligan behaviour. The decent element of society is at its wits end with this pestilence and the government must act to avoid further unnecessary bloodshed on the pavements.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about cyclists who break the law, but it's not clear if you want penalties to be increased for all road traffic offences by cyclists, or just the offence of cycling through a red light.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
