Make Child Maintenance payments fair for all
Child Maintenance should be reviewed in order to ensure that the process is fair for both parties (parent with care and paying parent). The system is currently unfair and does not provide equal rights to both parties.
CM should be reviewed and changed as per below:
- parent with care not given confidential information regarding paying parent I.e. salary, pension contributions etc.
- individual circumstances of both parties should be considered e.g. manipulation, outgoing costs etc.
- parent with care should be assessed equally alongside paying parent e.g. adequate care of child/ren, household income
- paying parent salary should be actual income I.e. after tax & NI
- both parties should be listened to by CMS

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.
You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
Stop CMS sharing paying parents financial details with receiving parents: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/635725
Change child maintenance calculations from gross annual earnings to Net earnings: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/641721
You could start a new petition calling for the financial circumstances of receiving parents to be considered in child maintenance calculations, if that's something that you'd like to see.
