Petition Action

Amend the dangerous dogs act 1991

Petition Details

Currently in the U.K if a dog bites or kills a person the dog is often PTS or penalised.

Regardless of the breed the dog is the responsibility of the owner. I would like owners to be charged with the crime of their dogs actions if found to be not out of self defence or unprovoked.

Additional Information

Meaning if a dog causes GBH for example the owner should be charged with GBH and so on.
We are seeing an increase of dog attacks and deaths to human life. These outcomes are not the dog’s fault and the impact it has for others that come into contact with them. People need to stop using their dogs as weapons or be punished like they have used a weapon or committed the physical crime as if it were themselves doing the damage or causing a death. Stop blaming the wrong end of the lead.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

It is already an offence if a person's dog is dangerously out of control, and it is an aggravated offence if the dog that is out of control injures a person.
