Restore the proposed ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars in 2030
The Government had a very clear plan, with a tight but manageable deadline to ban petrol and diesel cars in 2030 and hybrids from 2035... essential elements in the fight to create a carbon-free economy by 2050. Our commitment to 2030 encouraged many other countries to do likewise
The burning of 'fossil-based' carbon fuels is destroying our planet, and there is overwhelming evidence for this every day now. Many plant and animal species will die, and human life will suffer very greatly. The decision to ban new petrol and diesel road vehicles from 2030 was very late in the day, but pragmatic. Delaying it beyond that deadline is suicidal. Our move to alternative energy systems was creating massive growth in new industries. Many investment decisions will now be reversed.
