Increase the amount of funding that the UK provides to UNRWA.
The British Government should increase its funding to UNRWA (The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East). Whilst the Government already funds UNRWA, the current humanitarian disaster in Gaza necessitates further assistance from international donors.
In 2018, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian Territories told the Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural) that with an economy in free fall, 70 percent youth unemployment, widely contaminated drinking water, and a collapsed healthcare system, Gaza has become “unliveable”. 5 years on, with infrastructure on the brink of collapse and in the midst of war, it is prerogative that the UK increase its funding to UNRWA to prevent a total calamity.
