Force pet stores to only sell cages that meet the minimum size requirements
The minimum size requirement for a hamster cage is 100cm x 50cm x 50cm. Most Pet shops don’t sell any suitable. Pets at Home currently only sell 1 cage that meets this requirement.
Under the Animal Rights Act 2006, there are 5 legal requirements when owning animals. Health, Behaviour, Companionship, Diet & Environment. A suitable environment means big enough (100cmX50cmX50cm) and deep enough for the required amount of bedding (8”).
There needs to be some enforcement to stop pet shops selling and marketing cages towards animals especially hamsters because this goes against legal requirements and current legislation.
Every animal has the right to the ‘5 welfare needs’.
