Withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights

Petition Details

We want the Government to take the UK out of the jurisdiction of the ECHR so that protection of human rights is solely a matter for our independent courts, using laws already on the statute books, such as the Human Rights Act and Equality Act.

Additional Information

We believe the Brexit referendum made it clear that the British people do not want unelected judges in Strasbourg to impose judgments and rulings that have no democratic mandate. As seen with Rwanda, we believe the ECHR continues to undermine parliamentary sovereignty and our democratic processes. We believe leaving the ECHR is the only option left if we are to properly re-assert the sovereignty of UK institutions.
