Petition Action

Decriminalise Apostasy

Additional Information

A Sudanese court has sentenced a woman to hang for apostasy after she left Islam and married a Christian man. She is said to be eight months pregnant!

The following countries, amongst others, have outlawed Apostasy, meaning leaving religion.

• Afghanistan – death penalty, although the U.S. and other coalition members have put pressure that has prevented recent executions!
• Iran – death penalty
• Kuwait
• Malaysia – illegal in five of 13 states (fine, imprisonment, and flogging)
• Mauritania – death penalty if still apostate after 3 days
• Morocco – illegal to proselytize conversion (15 years' imprisonment)
• Pakistan – death penalty since 2007
• Qatar – death penalty
• Saudi Arabia – death penalty
• Somalia – death penalty
• Sudan – death penalty
• United Arab Emirates – 3 years' imprisonment, flogging
• Yemen – death penalty

UK citizens and Government to place the spotlight on these countries and put pressure on them to change these monstrous laws.
