Stop government plans to penalise recipients of Universal Credit benefits.
This kind of short-termist, blunt instrument legislation is damaging, utterly disregarding of unique individual circumstances, bereft of social justice, and likely to disproportionately penalise certain demographic cohorts (disability, gender, single parenthood, and other protected characteristics).
Show consideration for the wide range of individual circumstances (including individuals seeking to invest in their own longer-term earnings capability, employability, and training), and the entire childcare cost structure - which, on its own can render certain work itself financially detrimental.
Instead of punishing the financially disadvantaged and making their circumstances worse, government should instead focus on genuine help for the unemployed to return to work.
