The decision to resusitate to be the choice of the patient in NHS hospitals
Currently in the UK The decision whether to resusitate a patient is a purely medical one. There is no legal requirement to inform a patient that this decision has been made and the patients wishes do not have to be taken into consideration although it is recomended procedure to do so.
A DNAR form (do not attempt resusitation) can be filled in without the patients concent or knowledge, or the consent or knowledge of their next of kin where the patient is unable to respond.
We the undersigned believe this is immoral and a contravention of our basic human rights, the decision whether to die or to attempt to live on should be determined by the patient or their next of kin where the patient is not able to respond.
