Use CPI for all policy decisions and statistics

Petition Details

We believe Government uses different inflationary measures to suit its own political and economic needs. For example with student debt interest, state pension increases, rail fares, and claiming credit for growth or halving inflation. For future policy, only CPI should be used

Additional Information

We believe using different measures is opaque and untrustworthy, and can be used to suit different political and economic appetites. We believe this practice erodes belief in Government as a transparent, benevolent and competent institution.

In an era of unrivalled digital transparency alongside waning trust in public institutions, it is essential that Government evolves and adapts to provide the people it represents with greater financial honesty and integrity.
