Give same legal rights and obligations of married people to cohabiting partners

Petition Details

I want common law partners to be given same rights as married couples. Even if there is a clause which states they must have been together a certain length of time.

Additional Information

Society has changed; people no longer get married as much as previously. The law should reflect this. Currently, to be entitled to bereavement payment if unmarried you must have either been pregnant when your partner died, or you had a child living with you when your partner died. This may not be the case for unmarried couples who have been together a long time.
