Stop the increase to the minimum income requirement for spouse visas
Britain has one of the harshest family migration policies in the world and yesterday the minimum income requirement [MIR] was doubled from £18,600 to £38,700. We must protect family life and family values. We ask that Parliament do not increase the figure to this unjustifiable amount.
£38,700 is a threshold 75% of the UK don't earn so its clear only the wealthiest people can live as a family here.
Right now, a British person needs to show they earn at least £18,600 in order to get a visa for their family to live in the UK. It disproportionately affects women and young people, and creates single parent families. 65% of respondents to a survey conducted by Reunite Families UK said their child received a diagnosis of a mental health condition. Family life must be protected
