Stop new development in Somerton Somerset
Somerton is a small market town, set on a hill. There have been 4 new estates built. These sites were green fields. Now, when heavy prolonged rain falls, flooding occurs to numerous dwellings that are situated at various points down hill. The drainage system cannot cope. Please stop new development.
Somerset County Council is in debt. It is highly likely that they will increase development in order to clear the debt. Residents of Somerton need Government to support this council, to ensure financial support in alternative ways. Thereby ensuring that Somerton can reduce the risk of further flood damage.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
Decisions about local planning decisions are a matter for the relevant local authority, not the UK Government or Parliament.
You could raise your issue with a local councillor who represents you. You can find out who your local councillors are, and how to contact them, by entering your post code here: www.gov.uk/find-your-local-councillors
We could accept a petition calling for changes to legislation governing planning decisions by local authorities, or calling for the Government to increase funding for local authorities, if either of those are things you want to happen.
