Eradicate fuel poverty
As approximately 5 million households are likely to be driven into fuel poverty this winter by shrinking household incomes and rapidly increasing gas and energy prices, could the government take urgent steps to remedy this by imposing caps on price increases by energy companies in the short term? Could the government also develop as a matter of urgency schemes for fuel subsidies/cold weather payments/free home insulation/subsidised replacement heating systems to all households (means tested perhaps and available to all households with an annual income of less than £25,000, irrespective of whether they are on benefits or not?)
